September Tasting Tomorrow w/ Popcorn Pairing!

September 5, 2014

Tomorrow Saturday September 6th from 2-4pm we are having our monthly tasting event. This will be a unique tasting since we are pairing each wine with different flavors of popcorn from Crave Popcorn Co. I don’t think you want to miss this tasting especially if you are a popcorn fan. Below is the list of wines and my suggested popcorn pairings being featured:

2013 Las Perdices Pinot Grigio- Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina

The Las Perdices Pinot Grigio is a soft light green-yellow in color. On the nose, subtle citrus aromas and a slightly floral note. The flavors are citrus complimented by white stone fruit, a crisp, yet balanced acidity and a long finish. The result is a well-balanced white wine.

2013 Cariblanco Sauvignon Blanc- Casablanca Valley, Chile

Speaking about “Cariblanco” (named after one of the family horses) winemaker Byron Kosuge says the team has made subtle shifts the past few years towards a more sinewy style. The wine is a perfect blend of Old and New World styles, with floral notes as well as hints of beeswax or honeycomb, playing against green fruits and a slight herbal, spicy characteristic. Only 606 cases were made.

2010 Tobiano Pinot Noir- Casablanca Valley, Chile

Only 1,555 cases of this wine were made. Bright ruby in color with delightful aromas of tart cherry marmalade and a hint of eucalyptus are followed on the palate by more red fruit flavors and a playful personality. Dominated by wood spice and peppery flavors on the finish. A wine that can stand up to scrutiny but doesn’t demand it.

2011 Erial Tempranillo- Ribera Del Duero, Spain 2011

3,000 cases were made of this 100% Tempranillo (“Tinta Fina”). The wine is a dark ruby color. Great intensity on the nose; pure and clean, offering blackberries, black licorice and mineral undertones. The oak is very well integrated with the fruit adding very fine vanilla, toasty and spicy aromas. It is very well-structured with ripe tannins and a silky texture. 93 points ~ Decanter Magazine.

2011 Valle Las Nencias Blend Reserva- Mendoza, Argentina

56% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Bonarda, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Syrah, Its color is the typical Argentine dark bluish-purple, and its aromas are notes of stewed plums, violets, mocha, coffee, chocolate and herbs. On the palate good violet lift to the plum and currant flavors. Herb and tobacco leaf notes add a touch of greenness without detracting from the wine’s fruit. Nicely silky and harmonious blend, finishing with a dusting of tannins and good length.

2012 Mayol Glop- Priorat, Spain

A blend of 60% Garnacha, 20% Cariñena and 20% Syrah. “Glop” means “sip” in Catalan dialect. The color is a medium purple ruby. Aromas of mulberry and plum on the nose with floral notes that open up to a core of black licorice and minerality. Full bodied, very concentrated with velvety tannins and an elegant finish. Though a big wine, it is not overdone and it is easy to drink.

JUST ARRIVED!

2012 MERCURY HEAD Cabernet Sauvignon- Napa Valley

“Mercury Head” is a moniker coined from Winged Liberty Head dimes that were struck from 1916-1945 and also serves as the wine’s “front label.” As a kid, winemaker Dave Phinney collected them and years later received one with some change, which prompted him to use as a unique packaging detail.
Not produced since 2009, the wine was de-classified into other programs following two particularly challenging vintages. In contrast, the 2012 harvest offered us a classic bounty and is poised to be one of the finest offerings ever made. Small berries with bright acidity and already refined tannins were in abundance from a near perfect growing season. In addition to St. Helena vineyards, Taplin and Morisoli, we incorporated fruit for the first time from The Atlas Peak AVA. This is notable in that we are in the process of planting our own vineyard nearby to be used in future releases. Always considered to be our finest Cabernet Sauvignon, the best vineyards, lots, and barrels are used for this refined and serious wine. I received 12 bottles and have sold 4 today, let me know if you are interested.

See you on Saturday
